| Customer Reviews: Totally Great October 3, 2008 Rachel Schwartz (Portland Maine) I recently acquired this book on the reccpmendation of a fellow piano teacher. I have an advanced student who wanted to move away from the "boring" classical music I had been assigning him. The music is challenging, extremely innovative and contains musical surprises, plays well in the hand and sounds great! I wish that there were more arrangements from Mr. Johnson, perhaps an easier version for my less advanced students. Whoever he is, I would like to thank him for great work and a real understanding of what it takes to play the piano.

good, but not as good as the other books in this fabulous Popular Performer series August 6, 2008 Self Helper (New York) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I own all 11 books in this series published. Lately, Alfred Publication has been stealing the limelight from the previously-unchallenged HalLeonard Publication. The problem with this book for me-is that its too intermediate-a just a bit simplistic for my taste. For some strange reasons, the publisher believs the rating "advanced" will sell better-so I really had different expectations. The songs sound on jazzier side.
But this great series "Popular Performer" books deserves a compliment for being truly professionally arranged. Please check them out. My favorite titles are: 60's, standards, movies, 40's, 50's, Mercer, Rogers and Hart, and Porter's. My least favorite is 1970-hand's down.
Note-July 2009-Another great one just published: Songs of 1920's-excellent arrangements, great songs.
