Long awaited ... October 28, 2007 B. Feng (Sunnyvale, CA USA) 30 out of 30 found this review helpful
Get ready to play like George Winston ... The description does not provide a full list of scores that are included in the book, so here are the rest of them: The Cradle, Graduation, Loreta and Desiree's Bouquet Part 1, Lullaby, New Hopes Blues, Reflection, Stevenson, Thumbelina, The Twisting of the Hay Rope, (Variations on) Bamboo, The Velveteen Rabbit, Walking in the Air, Building the Snowman, and The Snowman's Music Box Dance. In my opinion, the scores seem like they are technically accurate (i.e. unabridged). And it's going to be a wonderful challenge to make them sound artistically accurate.
Wonderful!!!! October 24, 2007 Elyse Manchester (Vermont) 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
I have been a George Winston fan for a LONG time, so I was so excited to get the news that he had published a music book, since I had read that he would never do so. The songs are beautiful and so much fun to play. Most of them aren't too hard. Prelude/Carol of the Bells is my favorite, but I also like Thanksgiving, Longing, and New Hope Blues. This is a wonderful book!
Great music, and now my kids are playing it. January 7, 2008 Claytonius Maximus (West Lafayette, IN USA) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I've loved me some GW for a long time. I've got two teenagers that asked for this book of sheet music for Christmas, and santa came through. I might have guessed that this music would be too tough for them to play, but both of them are playing their favorite pieces and sounding great. They told me that it's not as hard to play as you might think just listening to George play.
Very highly recommended by me (and my kids as well).
Very good resource! November 24, 2007 David K. Miller 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The solos represent a good cross section of GW's works from easy ("The Black Stallion") to quite difficult ("Carol of the Bells" & Pachelbel's "Kanon"). The transcripts accurately represent particular recorded performances. If you've had the treat of hearing GW in concert, you know he never performs a piece the same way twice. Also, he has an uncanny touch that produces a flowing, mesmerizing effect. So I value these as a way to study his general approach to the piano. It still takes work to make them sound like the 'real' thing. And, the price of the book is very fair.
Very enjoyable! June 21, 2008 tamara (Oregon, USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
As some reviewers wrote, some transcriptions are not same as the recording. Regardless, this book is very enjoyable. Who doesn't enjoy playing George Winston's beautiful music? I think any player can enjoy this book because it is not very hard technically. I would have been even much happier if this book had included more blues, like "Miles City Train".
